Privacy statement
Last updated: 27 October 2026
RankLantern is a service of RankLantern (KvK 77400089, Rodeweg 11, 9715 AW Groningen). In this statement you read which personal data we process, why, how long we keep it and what rights you have.
Which data we process
- Account data: name, email address, an encrypted form of your password (we don't know your password itself), your language and email preferences.
- Usage data: when you logged in, and how many AI articles, images and searches you used this month (for your subscription's limits).
- Data about your website: the public pages we crawl for the audit (they may contain names or contact details that are on your site), the articles we write for you, and keywords.
- Payment data: you pay through Stripe. We see your name, email address, billing address and the status of your subscription, not your full card or account number.
- Free SEO check: the address of the website and your email address, to send you the result and to email you about it once (with your consent).
- Contact requests: if you get in touch through “Let's talk first”, your name, email address, website and your message, and temporarily the IP address you sent the form from (against spam).
- Connected services: if you connect them, statistics from Google Search Console (clicks, impressions, positions) and the access details for WordPress and Google. We store those access details encrypted.
What for and on what basis
- To deliver the service you have a subscription for (performance of the contract).
- To send you the emails that belong to the service: invitations, password resets, notifications about new drafts and the monthly overview. You can turn the last two off on your account page.
- To keep the service safe and working, for example against misuse and break-in attempts (legitimate interest).
- For invoicing and our accounts (legal obligation).
We don't sell data and don't use it for advertising. We don't use your data to train AI models.
How long we keep data
- As long as your account exists. After your subscription ends, we delete your workspace's data within 30 days.
- The free SEO check and the email address you gave with it: 30 days.
- Contact requests: 12 months, so we can find the conversation again. We erase the IP address with it after 30 days.
- Database backups are overwritten after at most 14 days.
- We keep invoices and accounts for 7 years, as the law requires.
Who else is involved
For parts of the service we use these parties. They only get the data they need for their task:
| Party | Where | What for |
|---|---|---|
| Hetzner Online GmbH | Germany (EU) | Hosting: the server and database everything is on |
| OpenRouter, Inc. | United States | Passing AI requests (writing and analysing texts) on to the model providers below |
| Anthropic PBC (via OpenRouter) | United States | AI model that writes the articles |
| DeepSeek (via OpenRouter) | China | AI model for quick analyses (search intent, overlap) |
| Google LLC | United States | Search Console data (only after the customer connects it), creating images and Google Analytics (only with consent) |
| Serper.dev | Not stated by the supplier (processing possibly outside the EEA) | Retrieving Google search results for keywords (no personal data) |
| TypeSafe (Jev) | United States | Decision model for the search intent of keywords (no personal data) |
| Resend, Inc. | United States | Sending emails (invitations, password resets, notifications) |
| Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd. | Ireland (EU) | Payments, subscriptions and invoices |
For parties outside the European Economic Area we use the safeguards the GDPR provides for that: the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Cookies
We use two functional cookies: one that keeps you logged in and one that remembers your language choice. We also use Google Analytics to count visits, but only if you give consent for that in the cookie notice. We keep your choice in a cookie. Google Analytics doesn't store IP addresses, and advertising and Google signals are turned off. We don't use advertising cookies.
Data security
All connections go over HTTPS. We only store passwords as an irreversible hash, access keys encrypted. Each customer only sees their own data, and viewers can't change anything.
Your rights
You may see your data, have it corrected or deleted, and object to processing. You can also ask to take your data to another service. Send your request to hello@ranklantern.com; we respond within a month. If you're not happy with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
For our customers
When we process personal data for a customer (for example of colleagues the customer invites, or data on the customer's website), we do so as a processor on behalf of that customer. For that we conclude a data processing agreement; request it through hello@ranklantern.com.
