›Will anything go online without me knowing?
By default nothing goes online without your approval. Automatic publishing is an option: every article then waits 24 or 48 hours and you can cancel it in that time.

Yes. You copy each article as text, HTML or Markdown to your own site. The WordPress connection just saves work.
